Expedia’s Cape Town Grand Tour: City Stories, Beaches and Wine-Country Roads

From Company’s Garden and Bo-Kaap to False Bay, Franschhoek and the mountain passes, this 32-stop route turns Expedia’s wide-angle Cape Town guide into one browseable TruCape package.

City stories · ocean roads · wildlife · wine country

A sweeping Cape Town route for curious travellers

The route in one sentence

This is a broad publisher-led itinerary rather than a personal trip diary: use it as inspiration, then let current weather, access, bookings, road conditions and your group’s pace decide the final order.

Expedia’s 2017 Cape Town guide moves from the City Bowl’s museums and historic streets to the Atlantic beaches, then follows False Bay towards the Winelands. The package preserves that chapter-led sequence while connecting every stop to a canonical TruCape destination product with current planning notes.

What this package covers

Expect heritage and natural history, coffee and city streets, the Waterfront and Robben Island, Table Mountain and Kirstenbosch, beaches and harbour towns, penguins and False Bay, then Constantia, Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Waterford, Boschendal and Mont Rochelle give the wine-country section distinct anchors instead of leaving it as a generic regional label.

The 32 researched stops

The table follows the useful chapter order. Generic chapters such as “Cape Town”, “City Bowl”, “False Bay” and “The Winelands” are route context rather than duplicate products; the repeated Table Mountain chapter appears once.

Make it practical

  1. City and history: keep the City Bowl museums and streets together.
  2. Mountain and coast: use weather flexibility for Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch and the Atlantic beaches.
  3. Peninsula: allow a full day for Hout Bay, Simon’s Town, Boulders, Kalk Bay and Muizenberg.
  4. False Bay and Winelands: give Gordon’s Bay, Kogel Bay and the estate visits their own daylight rather than treating them as quick add-ons.
How many days does this route need?

A comfortable version needs at least five to seven days, with a separate Peninsula day and one or two Winelands days. A shorter visit should select sections rather than race through all 32 stops.

Which stops are most weather-sensitive?

Table Mountain, Mont Rochelle, Llandudno, Kogel Bay, the beaches and scenic drives need the most flexibility. Museums, coffee and the Aquarium can absorb a poor-weather day.

Are the wine estates included as the same experience shown by Expedia?

The package preserves Expedia’s named route anchors, but current tasting formats, prices, access and booking terms belong to each estate’s current information and are not guaranteed to match a 2017 video.
