Kloof Street House
Victorian mansion restaurant in Gardens with a Gatsby-esque atmosphere, fairy-lit garden courtyard, brasserie menu, and Sunday live jazz — one of Cape Town's most atmospheric dining rooms.
About Kloof Street House
Kloof Street House occupies a Victorian mansion at 30 Kloof Street in Gardens, built around 1904. It is one of Cape Town’s most atmospheric dining venues — a layered, candlelit space of pressed ceilings, dark wood floors, Chesterfield couches, antique birdcages, and a bar famously stacked with vintage suitcases.
The mood shifts throughout the day. Brunch is relaxed and sociable in the fairy-lit garden courtyard. Evenings lean into the candlelit indoor rooms and a wine list built around South African producers. Sundays bring live jazz to the courtyard from the afternoon.
Menu highlights
- Brasserie classics using free-range, grass-fed meat
- Braised oxtail and chicken liver parfait as perennial favourites
- Moroccan-spiced lamb rump and Chalmar beef with marrow bone butter
- Strong vegetarian offering including gnocchi and seasonal lentil bakes
- Cocktail bar open until late
Pair it with
- A walk through the Company’s Garden, a 10-minute stroll away
- An evening start on De Waal Park at sunset
- The Bo-Kaap neighbourhood, which begins downhill from Kloof Street
Booking is strongly recommended for dinner; walk-in brunch on weekdays is usually manageable.
What to keep in mind before you travel.
Book well ahead for weekend evenings and Sunday brunch. The garden courtyard fills quickly in summer. Visit www.kloofstreethouse.co.za for reservations.
