What Zeitz MOCAA is

Zeitz MOCAA opened in September 2017 and occupies a converted grain silo in the V&A Waterfront’s Silo District. The museum’s collection and exhibitions focus on modern and contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora, with education, project and exhibition spaces forming part of the wider institution.

The building is part of the visit. The original silo’s concrete tubes were cut and shaped into a tall, cathedral-like atrium, while galleries occupy the surrounding structure. 2. Start with the atrium. Look at the structure before moving through the galleries; it helps explain why the museum feels unlike a conventional white-cube gallery.
3. Use a tour if the timing works. The museum currently lists free daily one-hour tours on weekdays, with limited capacity and booking on arrival.
4. Leave room upstairs. The shop and Ocular Lounge add a slower finish, with views across the Waterfront, harbour and Table Mountain.

Access, transport and practical comfort

The official museum information describes stroller arrangements and the V&A Waterfront lists lift access to every floor. Exhibition layouts and loaned works can have their own restrictions, so ask staff if you need a particular access arrangement. The museum is a substantial indoor option when wind, heat or rain makes a long outdoor route less appealing.

From the Clock Tower, allow roughly three to five minutes to walk to the Silo District; from Battery Park, the museum describes a longer canal-side approach. Secure parking is available in the Silo District garage and direct access is available from the garage. Public transport and a planned ride can be simpler than moving a car between Waterfront stops.

Admission, access offers and changing information

The official visitor page currently lists adult admission at R350, under-18 entry as free and a reduced on-site rate for South African and other African citizens presenting the required ID or passport. It also lists Africa Wednesday free entry for African citizens arriving during the stated morning window. These are current, changeable terms, so check the museum’s own ticket page before paying or travelling.
